We are all blessed to be part of Troop 3000. Water Dean and the founders of this troop built our compound, acquired our camping equipment, built our patrol boxes (Roy Blackwell!), and purchased our troop bus.
With a troop of more than 100 scouts, we cannot run the program we have in place without the bus. From the monthly campouts with 30-50 scouts, the ski trips with 60+ scouts and summer camp with 70+ scouts, we simply cannot get our scouts to and from the amazing adventures without the bus.
As many of you know, in the past year, we had to replace the HVAC units in the troop meeting trailer, the Quartermaster hut and the Patrol Leader Council hut. This was a $6,000 expense that we handled over time with funds raised with our trips and recycle days.
I opened this GoFundMe page because we need your help. Our bus engine has taken us over 250,000 miles and has come to it’s end of life. We have done the homework to get us the best replacement motor we can with a quality company installing it for us.
The total cost will be $11,000.
With April 15th coming on quickly, this is a wonderful opportunity to help us out with a donation.
We have to replace the engine now to be ready for Camp Daniel Boone. We have 70+ scouts going to summer camp and the costs to rent a commercial bus and drivers is less than $11,000 of course, but the future of the troop outings cannot happen with rental buses as only a handful of trips would in fact hit the $11,000 number.
I know scouting costs are high right now, summer camp, Seabase, and the Friends of Scouting campaign. Clearly, finding the right time for this kind of capital funds drive is impossible. In this case, we simply have no choice. The bus is down and needs the new engine.
Thank you all for your support of our Troop. Our sons, our scouts, depend on this bus to continue the amazing journey started almost 10 years ago.
