My name is Claire, and I am part of Troop 114G in Littleton, CO. I am working towards my Eagle Scout rank and leading a conservation project at Kistler Park in Highlands Ranch. This park holds a special place in my heart, as it is one of the places I practiced softball while playing in the HRCA league.
In 2023, a tornado came through Highlands Ranch, and damaged large trees in Kistler Park which eventually had to be removed. This year another scout troop planted some new trees to rejuvenate the area. The young trees are in a large mulched area, surrounded by dying grass due to the drought. I want to give back to the community by creating a sustainable, beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
For my Eagle project, I am designing and fundraising to plant a xeriscape garden filled with drought-resistant plants that can thrive in Colorado’s tough climate. The Highlands Ranch Metro District is the beneficiary for my Eagle Project, and they have generously agreed to provide the hardscape materials, including rocks, boulders, and landscape fabric. My fundraiser will cover the cost of the plants themselves, which will help reduce watering costs for our community and ensure the garden survives current and future drought conditions. The area is about 60 x 45 feet so I will need many plants to fill the space.
My plan is to fundraise for 50 plants, and each one can cost $20-50 depending on the variety. With extra budget, I also want to work with the Denver Botanic Gardens on signage about native plants and designing for conservation. My garden design also includes a bench if I get enough funding.
- Rocky Mtn. Penstemon
- Blue Grama Grass
- Blanket Flower
- Sunset Hyssop
- Russian Sage
- Wild Thing Sage
- Yucca
- Fire Spinner Iceplant
- Jupiter’s Beard
- Fernbrush

My fundraising will complete by July 19th, so I can purchase the plants and complete my conservation project before September 2026. I am excited to design a garden that not only makes Kistler Park beautiful but also low maintenance, saves water, and provides a haven for pollinators. I hope my project inspires others in the community to embrace xeriscaping and sustainable gardening. Thank you for supporting my efforts to help the environment!
