Triple Everest for Wilderness Youth Project
Donation protected
Starting March 7th, I’m attempting to ride my bicycle up and down Old San Marcos Rd, one of our famous steep Santa Barbara road climbs, 72 times consecutively. If I’m able to complete it, it should take just under 72 hours. All cyclists are welcomed and encouraged to come out to the hill, ride as many laps as you want to, and enjoy the refreshments provided at the top.
What will be fueling the ride? Fundraising for a local organization that I deeply care about - Wilderness Youth Project. Nature connection makes life better for kids. Time in nature makes kids happier, healthier, and smarter. WYP connects kids to nature in small groups guided by inspired, skilled, and committed mentors and volunteers.
WYP strives for diversity and inclusion within its programs, and equitable access to nature is a key cornerstone of the project. Donations are directly transformed into scholarship money to get ALL families access to the wilderness. Scholarships are fairly distributed on a sliding scale based on family income.
This summer I am helping lead WYP’s first multi day bikepacking trip. My friend Zach with South City Stitchworks has generously sponsored this project and is providing us with 10 sets of beautiful, durable bikepacking panniers at a very discounted rate. These bags will last years and years of use and abuse throughout our bikepacking program.
Funds raised in this GoFundMe Fundraiser will be allocated as follows:
1. The small costs associated with putting this event together will be reimbursed.
2. $1,400 will go to South City Stitchworks, an extremely discounted rate for 10 sets of custom fabricated WYP bikepacking panniers.
3. All additional funds will directly serve as scholarship money to get equal access to the outdoors for kids from all financial backgrounds.
Thank you for being a part of this community project, and thank you for considering a donation to this worthy cause. Hope to see you on the hill. If you make it to the top of Old San Marcos Rd. and see me resting, tell me to get a move on!
