They Left Everything Behind in Afghanistan

Donation protected

Hi, I am fundraising money for my family, my siblings, their family and my uncle and his family.

My five siblings and an uncle and their families (27 member in total) left everything behind in Kunduz, Afghanistan to escape torture by the Taliban. They crossed some twenty Taliban checkpoints along the way to Kabul from Kunduz.

They then spent two days at the gates behind the Kabul Airport hoping to get evacuated, but it didn't work out.  They were beaten some while there.

The Torkham border between Jalalabad and Peshawar was not a possibility so they took the risk of going to Kandahar to cross the Pakistan border.  After laying low for three days at the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar, they were able to cross the border by giving up everything they had saved to smugglers.

They don't have any other way to get help so I am fundraising to help them with expenses and in Karachi until they are able to make it to the US and resettle here.

We are awaiting answer from the USCIS on their Humanitarian Parole cases.  We filed their cases on 20th of September and I had to pay the USCIS fee of $575 per applicants. Now they are saying that it could take up to several months or a year.

UPDATE 11/28/21:

They were deported back to Kabul and are in hiding after being a week in Karachi, Pakistan. They are trying to get passports in Kabul right now.  Passports are getting expensive and for those who wants it right away is around $400-$800 per passport. Since they can't afford to get passport right away, they have been waiting to get it when it opens up to the public which is around $100 for one. It just opened up for the public per my father.

My sister Sajida who is going to Cotter Schools in Winona and I are fundraising money for them to get passports, pay their expenses and hopefully tickets if they get a chance to leave the country. Our priority is to get them passports right now.

We  appreciate any help they can get.

Thank you

Zia

Hi, my name is Jeanne Davis and I'm fundraising to help our friend Ziaulhaq (Zia) in his quest to help get his family to safety outside Afghanistan. Zia lived with us for two years attending our local high school in 2009-10 and 2011-12. He was sponsored originally by our US State Dept. with a group of Muslim students from around the world. While he was in Vermont he spoke numerous times to community, school and church groups about his experiences in Afghanistan and the struggles his people have had.

Zia's family has been targeted in the past by the Taliban and feared for their lives if they couldn't get out. They had had to go to 'Plan B' as the Kabul Airport was no longer a safe way to exit. His siblings and their families have just managed to cross into Pakistan and they will apply for a Humanitarian Parole status with the United States. We've been told they should qualify. Zia is a permanent resident of Minnesota and two years ago managed to get his youngest sister enrolled in an independent high school also in Minnesota. His parents, an uncle and the uncle’s family are hoping to get out of the country in the near future.  All of his family are at risk due to past persecutions and past associations with the Afghan Army and with the USA.

I'm hoping to raise money in support of fees and expenses for his family. If you can help it will make such a difference to their lives. The money is needed immediately and if you have any avenues of additional support we'd be most grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Jeanne
