Help Support The Empress.

As a proud Local Goblin, born and raised right here in New Braunfels, I’ve always loved NB and respected all walks of life.

This community is in my bones, and I care deeply about the people, creatures, and places that make it unique.

That’s why I’m rallying behind a shop that holds a special place in my heart:

The Empress.

-A metaphysical shop and supply store.

It was brought to my attention through Facebook bullying and harassment that The Empress applied for a city grant open to all downtown businesses, the Downtown TIRZ Business & Preservation Grant, with a simple goal:

Reimbursement of outdoor lighting around The Empress building so community events could be safer in the evenings and during winter months.

Unfortunately, judgement, misinformation and opposition from some members of the community pressured the owner into withdrawing her application.

While we may not all share the same beliefs, public resources like this grant should be considered based on merit and community benefit, not personal opinions about a business’s offerings.

The owner or employees of The Empress did nothing wrong.

They followed the same process as any other local business, filled out a grant application, met the criteria, and submitted it. Period.

The outrage shouldn’t be directed at the owner or her shop, but at the system that put this item on an automatic approval agenda without public discussion.

The personal attacks, bullying, and fear-mongering that came out of this are disgraceful, especially in 2025.

Tagging pastors to incite moral panic, and weaponizing religion to attack a small, woman-owned business who’s focus is on self help and personal growth is unacceptable.

The real issue is how city council handles public money and what gets fast-tracked without community input, not a metaphysical shop that applied for a grant just like any other qualifying business could.

The energy being used to harass this shop could be better spent demanding transparency and fairness from the people who actually control your tax dollars.

The Empress isn’t cursed, dark, or evil.

It’s just a shop, one that sells crystals, rocks, jewelry, oddities, self-help guides, and offers unconventional techniques.

More importantly, it’s a safe, welcoming space nestled in a beautiful historic downtown building. It’s a place where people from all walks of life can connect, create, learn, feel, and be accepted, truly and without judgment.

This is when we, the so-called “weirdos”, the lovers of odd, beautiful, and non-conventional things, stand together.

We shine our light on someone who gives so much to this community and refuse to let prejudice dim that light.

Your donation will go directly toward improving and maintaining this special space so it can continue to host inclusive events, foster creativity, and welcome everyone, regardless of beliefs or background.

We may not all walk the same spiritual path, but in 2025, we will not be burned for it.
