The House of the Rising Mojo Calls for Your Support

Donation protected
The House of the Rising Mojo is a living place — a home and sanctuary shaped by shared life, music, movement, meals, and the simple act of being together.

It is a space for both gatherings and daily living, where people co-create, heal, and explore the beauty and complexity of community.

Today, we’re reaching out with the understanding that when challenges arise, it is community that helps meaningful spaces endure.

We’re opening a crowdfunding to support the Mojo through winter and into the season ahead, strengthening our capacity to offer high-quality transformative workshops, festivals, concerts with international artists, and our community living program. Following a change in stewardship last spring and a period of dedicated renewal, the project entered a new financial reality — one deeply affected by the damage of one of Portugal’s hardest winters.

Why This Call Matters
If this place has ever:
  • Held you in a circle
  • Given you a sense of belonging
  • Offered you rest, inspiration, or
  • Initiated inner transformation
  • Shown you another way of living together
This is an invitation to care for a place that has held many of us.

A Living Community, Not Just a Venue
At any given moment, the Mojo is home to 8–12 residents, sharing daily life and exploring new, more harmonious ways of relating to one another and the land.

Holding this residency means:
  • Navigating community dynamics with care and presence
  • Maintaining rustic, old and shared infrastructures (water, electricity, sanitation, kitchens, common spaces)
  • Ensuring safety, hygiene, and emotional sustainability
  • Holding conflict, communication, and collective responsibility

This is real, ongoing work — emotional, logistical, and physical — that does not pause when winter arrives. While the land has been asking for urgent repairs, we have also been holding space for human lives, relationships, and processes unfolding here every day.

❄️ The Winter’s Test
This winter has deeply tested the foundations of the Mojo — physically, financially, and humanly.

We have navigated:
  • Flooding land and waterlogged soil, leading to landslides in the parking
  • The floods damaging one of our caravans which usually accommodates our cherished volunteers.
  • The salamander heater in the dome breaking up due to water damage
  • Storming wind breaking off the roof of different structures
  • Persistent water damage and spreading mold
  • Torn carpets and damaged flooring due to holes in the Dome’s protective structure, essential to keep gatherings dry
  • Our main fridge breaking down
  • Multiple water leaks in the house and kitchen
  • After one of the big rainfalls, one of the old ruins — where the first gatherings on this land once took place — became structurally unstable, nearly falling on top of the main house. We needed to hire an excavator to dismantle it and ensure the safety of the main house and everyone living here. A few of the other ruins on the land are also slowly crumbling with the ongoing weather causing safety hazards.

We also invested over 600€ to repair and stabilize the parking area so residents, participants, and facilitators could access the land safely. Continued flooding undid that work, bringing us back to square one and requiring yet another intervention.

Most urgently, we discovered that the electrical system posed a serious fire risk. To protect everyone on the land, we redid the entire system immediately, investing 300€ to ensure basic safety.

These were not upgrades for comfort or expansion — they were non-negotiable acts of responsibility and care.

Alongside all of this, the life of the land has continued. Much of what sustains the Mojo happens quietly, beyond what is immediately visible.

At this moment:
  • Three core people are working full time to hold the space
  • We are tending repairs, residency, events, land care, and ongoing community processes
  • Financial margins have become very tight, leaving little buffer for those carrying this responsibility to tend to their personal needs

Meeting these needs with steadiness and care has required sustained focus and commitment. It has also meant less space for rest, and less energy available to shape the kind of well-curated, magical season we know is possible. We continue to trust the long cycle that winter prepares the ground for what comes next. And we also recognize that this phase calls for shared support.

Preparing for an Abundant Year
We are preparing for an abundant year of love, dance, creativity, gatherings, and shared celebration — a season where the land is stable, the spaces are safe, and the people holding them are resourced enough to truly welcome others.

But before the bloom, the roots must be strengthened.
This is one of those moments where community is most needed.

“How can we support?”
We hear this question so often, and it truly means a lot! We’ve felt so much generosity and willingness to help. And at the same time, we’ve been tending many small fires, which has made it hard to create regular community days or other ways to receive that support in person.
Your donations directly support us by freeing energy, restoring the land, and helping this place evolve.

️What Your Support Will Make Possible
Your contribution directly supports the land, the structures, and the people holding the Mojo through winter and into the blooming season.

We have already invested many thousands of euros to keep the space safe, functional, and alive. This fundraising allows us to stabilize what is essential now, so we can continue responsibly and with care.

FUNDING GOAL : 15,000 €

How the Funds Will Be Used:

Dome floor & weather protection — 2,000 €
Replacing torn carpets and damaged subflooring in our main gathering space, which has been repeatedly flooded due to water dripping through the plastic cover. This also includes patching or partially replacing the Dome’s plastic structure, which has developed multiple holes after intense weather, making it difficult to keep the space dry.

Yoga deck repair — 500 €
Repairing the wooden structure after storm damage, where a broken window and tent pole impacted the deck.

Reroofing & water protection — 800 €
Targeted roof repairs and treatment to prevent ongoing water damage and protect long-term health.

Flood-resistant parking reconstruction 2,000 €
Rebuilding the parking area with proper drainage so it can finally withstand seasonal rains. (600 € already invested and lost to flooding.)

Electrical safety & pellet heater 600 €
Ensuring safe electrical systems and restoring the pellet stove in the Dome, which makes winter events possible — both to nourish the community and help sustain the project financially. (300 € already invested to prevent fire hazards.)

Essential tools & equipment 1,600 €
For daily land care, repairs, and maintenance (ex: chainsaw, hoe, axe, work table, air compressor).

Truck fund 6,000 €
A dedicated work vehicle for transporting materials, infrastructure supplies, and event equipment. Until now, our personal vans — which are also our homes — have been used for heavy hauling and clearing accumulated debris from before we became stewards, leading to significant wear and damage.

Core team support (winter → spring) 1,500 €
Partial support for the three people working full time to hold the land, residency, and community processes through this demanding season.

Beyond the Initial Goal — Building Long-Term Resilience
Any funds raised beyond our goal will support long-term stability and future-proofing the Mojo, including:
  • Moving toward land ownership and long-term stewardship.
  • Building a (highly demanded) community sauna for rest, ritual, and integration.
  • Improving the Dome and gathering temple with better weather protection and sound.
  • Upgrading basic infrastructure (kitchen, toilets, hot water, shared facilities).
  • Expanding our capacity to welcome larger artists and deeper, more immersive experiences.

We want, with your support, to keep care for this land and share its magic with you, far into the future.

Thank You for Standing With Us
This crowdfunding is about collective care and ensuring that the Mojo remains a living place — where community, creativity, and connection can continue to grow.

Thank you for supporting this project — especially in the harder season — so that together, we can welcome what wants to bloom.

With love and deep gratitude,
The House of the Rising Mojo
