WHO WE ARE:

Team TLC NYC is a grassroots team of volunteers committed to supporting those seeking asylum in the US. Our goal is to quickly address the most basic needs of individuals and families when they are released from ICE detention facilities and travel to, or through, New York City to family members or sponsors.  Team TLC NYC responds by assisting with urgent travel coordination, distributing toiletries and personal necessities, and purchasing hot meals along the way.

Team TLC NYC is fulfilling critical and unmet human needs—on the ground, in real time.

Team TLC NYC is seeking to establish an operating budget through private donations to fund:

• Hot meals for asylum seekers
• Transportation costs for asylum seekers including bus or train tickets, change fees, metro cards, and cab fares
• Photocopies of information and lists of resources for where they are going
• TLC Bags delivered directly to asylum seekers from our volunteers.

TLC Bags include:
o Sanitary and toiletry needs
o Toothbrushes and toothpaste
o Clean socks and underwear
o Food and snacks
o Coloring books/stuffed animals/small gifts for kids

Team TLC is 100% volunteer-operated. There is no paid staff.

Many people are traveling to or through New York City through various modes of transport, and we work with a national  immigrant transportation coalition to coordinate our efforts to get these bags to those who have been detained, abused, and traumatized by detention/concentration camps at the border. 

These families are fleeing their home countries -  most tend to be from Guatemala and Honduras. 

Many TLC bags are delivered to children, most under the age of 8. 

Just this week, one went to a teen, age 16, who fled Guatemala because his life was being threatened by a local gang because he would not join. Another went to a man who showed us the bullet in his foot (that has been there for a year) where someone tried to kill him; he just walked here from Honduras.
