We are raising funds to support a woman and her 10 year old daughter from Honduras. Thelma was separated from her child at the border in June of 2018 and reunited in NYC, where they currently live. After a harrowing experience, they need our support to rebuild their lives.
After their access to housing with family ended last month, we have secured temporary housing for them in the Bronx, close to the child's school, for the month of March. We are raising funds for this and the many other things they need to navigate this difficult moment in their lives. Together & Free and Faith Communities Reuniting Families have joined forces to work with Thelma and her daughter.
We have the opportunity to help them feel safe, cared for, and welcome here. Please consider donating to this fund – all of which goes DIRECTLY to the family. Funds help with living expenses such as clothing, food, laundry, transportation to appointments, toys, books and school supplies for the children. Here is what each amount donated will go for:
$75 – a week of groceries for the family of 2
$100 – clothes and shoes for the child for the spring season
$52 – laundry for a month at the local laundromat
$80 – metrocard for Thelma to take her daughter to and from school and get to immigration and legal appointments
$50 – school books for the 10 year old
Together and Free is a coalition of volunteers supporting immigrant families separated at the US border.
Faith Communities Reuniting Families (FCRF) is a coalition of congregations and faith groups around the country responding to the family separation crisis.
Any gift you can give is welcome.
Please know that this money not only helps them maintain a life in NYC but also represents support, care and attention. Since beginning this work, we are heartened to know how many strangers have are really helpers. Thank you so much for your generosity and fortitude.
