Elliot and Amanda Coleman never dreamed that August 26th would include anyone’s worst nightmare…

Fortunately, Amanda works from home and around 11:30 am had taken their dog out for a potty break. Upon entering their home after Duke finished his potty break, she immediately heard the smoke detectors and found a window AC unit completely engulfed in flames.

Amanda was able to grab a few necessities, clothes for their grandson and medications while calling 911. Thanks to the swift actions of the local volunteer fire department and mutual aid from other county departments, the fire was mostly contained to one half of the home but smoke and water damage contributed to the home being deemed a total loss.

Elliot and Amanda have been married for 28 years. Elliot has been a member of West End Volunteer Fire Department for approximately 10 years. They share their home with their 7 year old son, their adult daughter and one year old grandson.

Their home was a total loss, leaving this family facing the enormous challenge of rebuilding their lives from the ground up. As a volunteer firefighter, Elliot willingly answers calls to protect his neighbors. Tennessee recognizes volunteer firefighters as an essential part of community fire protection, with more than half of the state’s fire service made up of volunteers.

Now, for once, this beautiful family are the ones who need their community to answer the call. Donations can help provide immediate necessities such as clothing, food, temporary housing, transportation, household items, and eventually help them begin rebuilding a place they can call home again.
