THE NEXT STEP
Hi Guys,
Im on a another mission!!!
As some of you might know I run a Community Interest Company called Make A Step which offers creative volunteer programs in London , Africa and in the carribean.
Make A Step workshops are specifically tailored for each group and explore various forms of creativity, arts and sports activities. Our workshops are aimed at 5 - 16 years old and aid to discover and optimise personal and social development.
So far I have taken over 30 volunteers to orphanages, school and youth facilities in Kenya, Jamaica, St Lucia, and Gambia, and what an enlightening and life enriching journey it has been to learn and share our skills an
d passion for creativity and social change.
In November 2018 Mek Ah Step took 6 volunteers to serve this school for 2 weeks offering our phase 2 of the creative arts workshop program that we offer.
Although the program was a huge success something wouldnt stop nagging at my heart strings.
I questioned what more could I possibly do continuously to help out more, and the problem just wouldnt leave my mind...
Bakau Lower Basic school currently facilitates around 1250 students or more, It’s a government run school and is located in Gambia within the Bakau community but unfortunately does not have a clean/safe toilet facility for its students.
This is something we here in London would deem as ‘normal’ but it could be seen and much appreciated more as a privilege for these children.
Check the FACTS:
*Around 2.6 billion people worldwide live without a toilet. ...
*Or have access to a toilet that is clean and hygienic
*Among them 1 billion defecate in the open – in fields, bushes, or bodies of water – putting them, and especially children, in danger of deadly faecal-oral diseases like diarrhoea.
SO I NEED YOUR HELP!!
The kids of Bakau Lower Basic school need your help!!!!
It will cost £2000 to build toilets, restore the piping system and to paint the new toilets.
This year Mek Ah Step aims to fit 6 toilets and in due time we’re aiming to expand.
My first steps to reach the target will include fundraising through my annual fashion show Inspiring Edge !
If you would like to support my campaign through the show you can buy tickets https://inspiringedge2k18.eventbrite.co.uk
All the procceds from the event will go towards this campaign.
Also I will be doing loads of other creative ventures to help me reach my target.
I have attached some images of the toilets in their current state, we hope you can help us make a step!
Love and Light
God bless xxx
