Dear Friends and Family,
I am excited to share that my sister, Carrie and I will be taking on the Saharan Challenge in October 2025, a tough 84km trek over two days through the breathtaking yet harsh landscapes of the Sahara Desert. I am doing this to raise funds for something incredibly important to me: Hokisa (Homes for Kids in South Africa). This amazing residential care home in Masiphumelele provides safety, support, and education for children affected by HIV/AIDS.
Masiphumelele is local to The Alexander Estate in Noordhoek and it is our family’s mission to support and uphold the local community in Noordhoek. As a Cape Town trained primary school teacher who has taught for many years in England, the opportunity and desire to give back to South African children through education is a driving force. Hokisa's mission resonates deeply, having seen the immense challenges these children face, and my values align with their mission to create a loving, stable home for vulnerable children. I am honoured and excited to support their incredible work.
What is the challenge?
On the 10th and 11th of October, we will embark on The Saharan Challenge covering two marathon distances over two days through the Draa Valley and over sun-baked Moroccan dunes.
Where your donation goes:
The money raised will go directly to Hokisa to support their essential programs, such as providing daily care and nutritious meals to school support, counselling, and community support. Your contribution will make a significant difference to the lives of these children who are navigating difficult circumstances. If you want to learn more about the incredible work that Hokisa does, you will find it here: Hokisa
How to help:
I would be incredibly grateful for any donations, small or large as every bit helps towards our fundraising goal and more importantly, supports Hokisa's mission of building brighter futures for the children in Masiphumelele.
Thank you for your support and being part of this journey with me,
Susan
