Hello, my name is Kaire.

I'm a 34-year-old single mother doing everything I can to support my 16-year-old son Andreas, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called sclerosing osteodysplasia. This condition has already taken 90% of his vision in 3 years. We now face regular medical appointments and emotional challenges that come with his condition.

When Andreas was born, he was a perfectly healthy child. At the age of 13, he started having problems with his vision. We started seeing different doctors and had to undergo many tests before we found out what was wrong with him, but by then it was too late. Some of his optic nerves were already damaged and could not be restored. He had two operations to make room for his optic nerves, but unfortunately these operations did not help.

The doctors said that he would go blind.

Andreas will have to start learning everything again. It is difficult for him and for me.

Andreas was a very energetic child before the illness, who liked to ride his bike, play football, be in nature and take pictures. He had plans for what to do after school, but unfortunately he can no longer do any of them. Now he has different tests and doctor visits every month to monitor the progress of his illness.

Andreas needs assistive devices to cope with his illness and to start learning everything again while blind.

I love my son more than anything, and I’m doing my best to be strong for him. But between long work hours and the heavy weight of debt, I often feel like I'm falling short. I work constantly just to keep us afloat, which means I miss precious time with him—time he needs, and I need too. I cry in silence when he's asleep because I feel helpless and overwhelmed.

All I want is to be present for my son, to offer him comfort, stability, and a better quality of life. I am using every donation to pay down our debts, so I can reduce my working hours and be by his side more often—where I’m truly needed.
