We are Yasmine and Travis McDonald, and we are the proud parents of Evander, a 16-month-old boy diagnosed with GATAD2B-related neurodevelopmental disorder (GAND), a rare genetic condition that affects almost every aspect of his development. Because of this, Evander will be a special-needs person for life. He cannot eat solid food, drink water, or bear weight on his legs, but he faces every day with incredible strength and determination. He attends therapy daily, working hard to make progress. We have a long journey ahead, and while we plan to relocate to Colorado for specialized care, our focus remains on securing the therapy, medical support, and equipment that will give him the best possible quality of life.

GAND is an extremely rare disorder, with fewer than 500 known cases worldwide. It impacts brain development, causing significant delays, speech challenges, low muscle tone, and difficulties with coordination. Children like Evander work tirelessly just to reach milestones that many take for granted, such as sitting, walking, or talking. Although there is no cure, early and consistent intervention can lead to meaningful progress and a fulfilling life. Evander’s bright smile and determination inspire everyone who knows him, and we are committed to doing everything possible to support his journey.
