My name is Jenny Bojang, and for over six years, I’ve lived apart from my husband and children—not by choice, but because of a long, emotionally exhausting immigration process.
In 2015, I traveled to The Gambia as a Peace Corps volunteer. What began as a service journey turned into something much more meaningful when I met Haruna, a kind, hardworking man. Tragically, in 2016, he lost his wife and was faced with raising his five children on his own. Our connection grew through shared values, mutual respect, and a deep sense of love—not just for each other, but for his children, who eventually began calling me “Mom.”
Haruna and I got married in December 2018, and I returned to the U.S. to begin the petitioning process so we could all be together. I set up a home here in the U.S. filled with anticipation and hope. I decorated bedrooms for each child and imagined the meals, school days, holidays, and everyday memories we would finally share. But the wait has been long—too long.
The emotional toll of our separation has been immense. We have faced health challenges and the devastating loss of loved ones, all while being apart from one another. Haruna has shown incredible dedication to raising our children in The Gambia, but we long to be reunited and live together as a family in the U.S.
Despite doing everything “the right way,” our case has faced delays, complications, and heartbreaking setbacks. We’ve spent over $40,000 in attorney and immigration fees—not including visa costs, travel expenses, or medical exams—only for some approvals to expire before they could even be used. I’ve written letters, called agencies, and even contacted my Senator’s office just to get answers. And yet, we are still waiting.
This has been a transformative journey of resilience, heartbreak, and a fight for family unity. We are sharing our story to bring awareness to the emotional, psychological, and financial toll of immigration's negligence, oversights, inconsistencies, and errors.
What we need now is help—real, tangible support to finish what we started and finally bring my family home.
Your contribution will help cover:
- Remaining immigration and legal fees
- Travel costs for Haruna and the children
- Visa and medical exam fees
- Basic resettlement needs as they adjust to life here
This is about more than just paperwork—it’s about restoring our family’s wholeness. About children being able to hug their mother goodnight, and a husband and wife no longer having to navigate life continents apart. It’s about love, commitment, and the belief that families belong together.
Thank you for standing with us. Every share, donation, and prayer brings us closer to the day we’ve been dreaming of for years.
