Support the Fight Against Impaired Driving
As a lifelong Calgarian who grew up with hockey as a cornerstone of our family, it is with immense sadness and shock that we share the tragic news of the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Our hearts ache for the entire Gaudreau family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly challenging time.
For nine unforgettable years, I had the privilege of watching Johnny light up the ice in Calgary, not just as a superstar player, but as a beloved member of our community. Beyond his talent, Johnny and his family embodied the true meaning of family and community, a bond that resonated deeply with so many of us.
Tragically, a drunk driver took the lives of both Johnny and his brother Matthew, forever altering the lives of the Gaudreau family and countless others. Like so many Calgarians, hockey families, and people around the world, we mourn the loss of two exceptional individuals who left an indelible mark on our lives.
In the spirit of giving back, just as Johnny and his family did for so many years in Calgary, I am raising funds in honour of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau to support a cause close to home. All donations will be directly sent to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada, and any contribution will help make an impact. MADD Canada is a national, charitable organization formed in 1989 with a mission to stop impaired driving and support victims of this violent crime. With volunteer-driven groups in more than 100 communities across Canada, MADD Canada aims to offer support services to victims, heighten awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, and save lives on our roads.
Every hour in Canada, approximately 9 charges or license suspensions are issued for impaired driving, making it the leading criminal cause of death in our country. While no amount of money can ease the pain felt by the Gaudreaus or the countless other families impacted by impaired driving, your support can help prevent future tragedies and provide assistance to victims of these unimaginable accidents.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to support initiatives aimed at preventing impaired driving and supporting those affected by these senseless acts. Your generosity, at any level, will make a difference in honouring the memory of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau and helping to create a safer community for us all.
Thank you for your support, and for joining us in remembering Johnny and Matthew—two extraordinary individuals who will forever be missed but never forgotten.
