On July 17 2026 Me and my family went to myrtle Beach to enjoy the beach, relax, have some time away from home.

The day after at roughly 11:30pm my father Emmanuel Rodriguez was detained by State highway patrol for a broken headlight less than 100 feet from the hotel we were staying at. He calls me telling me to walk down there to see if I could be of some help and so I do, in the car with him was my brother who has a severe case of autism as well as being nonverbal.

The state highway patrol puts him in handcuffs and charges him with driving without a license. My father went down the street to get food for our family, he wasn't drinking, he wasn't smoking, he wasn't doing anything illegal other than having a busted headlight.

His bond was a pr bond of $232 which meant he could have walked free the same day, but due to his status of being an immigrant and with how close Horry county is with working with ICE, he was detained an put on a 48 hour hold so ICE could come and take him away.

A little bit of backstory of who my family is, My mother came here 21 years ago with my father in hopes of finding a safe place for themselves and her children, she works while having to care for my siblings and take care of the home.

I am a 20 year old college student at the university of North Carolina at Greensboro going onto my 3rd year of college majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry in hopes to make it into the medical field, my parents have always shown me how money is earned through hard work and dedication, and with that I never asked them to pay for my tuition or any living expenses for me.

My brother McKenley is 18 and was born was a serve case of autism as well as being non verbal, he is likely to never live on his own and have a full time care taker.

And our youngest being Anthony who turned 12 and is starting middle school in the fall.

Emmanuel has been the backbone for our family, not only financially but every other aspect of our families life.

With this sudden heartbreaking loss it is still up in the air on whether or not I will continue to pursue my education for the meantime for the sake of helping my mother.

Many of you that know my father knows that he is a tough person to get to know, he’s spent his entire life getting the short end of the stick. Throughout all that he’s never committed any violent crimes to us or to the community. My father spent the better part of his life making sure we had everything we needed, and has helped those who have needed it most. I believe it the bottom of my heart that my father is a good man to those around him even with his stubbornness.

This gofundme will help my mom not have to worry about getting 2 jobs on top of already having one and having to take care of my siblings. This will also help me feel more comfortable going back to pursue my education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. My family and friends are begging me to continue through with my education and to not let this stop me, With that said my mother is the most resilient, strong, independent, and caring women I know. Even before she was already dealing with a lot and now with these unforeseen circumstances it feels almost impossible to go back to school and for her to deal with this alone.

Even if there's nothing you can donate I truly hope you will share my fathers story, His crime was a broken headlight and is now on his way to being processed out to a country he has not been to in over 24 years. This outcome for our family is something I truly never expected or prepared for, anything you are able to do we greatly appreciate by the bottom of our hearts.
