Celebrate 100 Years of Community with Us!
This year marks a truly remarkable milestone – the 100th anniversary of the official opening of the Viscountess Barrington’s Memorial Hall and Recreation Grounds.
For a century, this cherished space has been more than just bricks and mortar – it’s been the beating heart of our village. From wedding receptions and birthday parties to concerts, sports, fêtes, and community gatherings, the Hall and Grounds have brought people together for generations.
Now, as we approach this special centenary, we’re not just looking back on 100 years of memories – we’re looking forward to the next 100. And to do that, we need your support.
What are we fundraising for?
We’re creating a Centenary Celebration Fund to mark this historic occasion in a meaningful and lasting way. Your donations will help us:
- Create special centenary mementos for local children, so the next generation feels connected to our shared history
- Plant a commemorative tree, which will become a living symbol of our community and a new home for our beloved annual Christmas Carols
- Design and build a beautiful centenary garden, a peaceful space for all ages to enjoy
- Carry out essential repairs and ongoing maintenance to the Hall, preserving it for the future while keeping it safe, accessible, and welcoming for all
Why are we asking for help?
While last year’s ABBA evening was a joyful success, a more recent event had to be cancelled due to low ticket sales – a tough setback that also left us out of pocket because of non-refundable costs.
It was a reminder of the financial challenges small community charities like ours face. But it’s also motivated us more than ever to ensure this centenary celebration goes ahead – and that it’s inclusive, uplifting, and unforgettable.
