Ships of the Desert -for Outback Futures

Donation protected
Amanda, Theresa and Delia are three women pilots planning an epic flying adventure in December 2025 to raise funds for Outback Futures.

Outback Futures is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing in rural and remote communities across Australia. They provide tailored support for children, young people, adults, families, and entire communities—building trust and empowering individuals to take charge of their own mental health.
In many outback regions, access to mental health services is limited or non-existent. Outback Futures addresses this gap through long-term, community-led partnerships that focus on early intervention, prevention, and lasting change. Their approach equips communities with the tools and confidence to identify and respond to mental health challenges from within.
With the support of donors and partners, Outback Futures can continue to deliver life-changing services to some of Australia’s most isolated areas—ensuring no one is left behind when it comes to mental wellbeing.
We will also enter our flight in the Pooleys International Dawn to Dusk competition.

The objective of the Dawn to Dusk is:
To encourage the most interesting employment of a Flying Machine within the limits of competent airmanship and
To demonstrate the capabilities of pilot and machine in a day's flying, in the hours between Dawn and Dusk,
whilst undertaking an original and praiseworthy objective.

Our Team name - Ships of the Desert! (a common nickname for camels)

On 21st August 1860 Robert O'Hara Burke and William Wills together with 19 men, 23 horses and 26 camels set off into the Outback to forge a path from South to the North of this great country and back again, the aim being to be the first Europeans to venture overland to the north coast of Australia
They loaded the team of camels (sometimes known as Ships of the Desert) and set off on their fateful journey. They were seen off by 15,000 people at Royal Park, Melbourne only to perish on the return journey
We will follow the path they forged and complete the journey (approximately 2600km) in ONE day between the hours of Dawn and Dusk. Our journey will commence in Melbourne, traveling across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland, finishing in Karumba, Far North Queensland

Your donation will support real change, real support, and real hope in the outback.
Support the “Ships of the Desert” mission. Fuel the flight. Change lives.
