"YOU are welcome" billboard in ROC
Donation protected
We are four women from Rochester, New York who attended the Women's March in Washington on January 21st, 2017. We are pharmacists, teachers, mothers, wives, sisters and friends. We believe strongly that diversity of language, race, religion, ability, country of origin, and sexual orientation are what make America great.
We are not life-long activists, only four people who are unwilling to accept the anti-immigrant rhetoric and sentiment as the status quo. We are ready to take action to let our local refugee and immigrant populations know that Rochester, N.Y. is a big-hearted city that loves its diverse people.
Our goal is to raise $2,000 by February 28th . We will be working with a local advertising agency to purchase billboard space in one of several heavily immigrant-populated areas. The sign will be written in 4 languages that reflect the populations of our city and suburbs: English, Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese.
The message will be simple: "You are welcome here."
Please help us by donating to our cause. It will mean a great deal to so many in our community who may be feeling out of place, unwelcome or even anxious to see a message of inclusion written in their own languages. Please help us combat negativity with kindness and respect.
We are stronger, together.
In solidarity,
Candice Hudson, Rebecca Hurysz, Leigh Ann Reid and Ruth Hurysz
