As Illinois enters its 9th month without a state budget, Shelter, Inc., a child welfare agency in Arlington Heights, may have to discontinue its Healthy Families (HF) program. The Healthy Families Program provides crucial education and support to first-time at-risk parents and their babies to prevent abuse before it begins.
Since 1996, Shelter, Inc. has provided Healthy Families services free of charge to at-risk, first-time parents, helping them to build a healthy and secure environment for their children.
The Healthy Families program offers a variety of services through home visitation that may include providing referrals for child care, education or health care. Home visits focus on positive parenting skills, child development, child health information and other aspects of family functioning.
The lack of state appropriations has caused a growing number of critical services for children, families and communities to be reduced or eliminated. The significant lack of funding means that Shelter will not be able to cover the program’s costs in to the next year.
Since this program was established at Shelter, Inc., 100% of babies through age 3 in our HF program received timely immunizations. No child receiving HF services has been placed in emergency foster care due to abuse or neglect.
Help us to continue helping these at-risk families to provide happier and healthier homes for their new babies. Everyone in our community benefits! Learn more on our website http://shelter-inc.org/
