Honoring Lucy- Send WWII Vets to DC
Friends, Family and All Those Who Support Our Nation's Veterans,
I am running the Marine Corps Marathon for the 3rd time in October. This year is very special to me. I am running in honor of Staff Sergeant Lucy Coffey, a Veteran of WWII who passed away earlier this year at the age of 108. A huge inspiration to all who were fortunate to have met her, I was honored and privileged to have been able to spend some time with her during her last year of life.
I met Lucy through Honor Flight, a non-profit that takes our nation's oldest Veterans to Washington D.C. to see their memorial, one that was dedicated to the service and sacrifice of our nation's WWII heroes. It costs the Veteran nothing, but requires donations to keep going. My goal is to raise enough money to send one WWII Veteran on this trip. The cost is approximately $1000 per passenger.
The WWII Memorial was constructed nearly 60 years after the end of the war, so many WWII Veterans have never seen their memorial. However, our nation's oldest Veterans are dying at a rate of approximately 492 a day, so time is of the essence.
I appreciate anything you can do to help support and promote this effort. I will run to honor Lucy, and with gratitude to all those who have served our great nation.
Semper Fidelis,
Queta
