Volunteer Internship in Japan
Donation protected
Hello my name is Samantha.
Last summer I had an amazing opportunity to go to Japan for a volunteer internship at Meysen Academy, Premier School. (Meysen Academys website) The school has officially asked me to return this summer.
I am writing to request your financial support to fund my volunteer internship abroad. During the internship I will be working in English immersion class rooms, from substitute teacher, to teacher’s assistant, to one on one practice with students. I will also be there to assist during the summer school and camps. This was a magical time; arts and crafts, treasure hunts, water play, night hikes and then ending the night with camp fire songs and marshmallows.
In order to make this experience possible, I need your help. This is an unpaid, full-time, service-based internship. I am responsible for covering all travel expenses, such as travel insurance, international airfare, and all ground transportation, and the costs associated living abroad for three months. I am currently doing Workstudy to save money towards my personal bills while I’m away. My goal is to raise the cost of my travel, $2,625. Can you help? Gifts of any amount will make a big difference, and I will be forever grateful to you for supporting. This is an experience of a lifetime.

Who you are supporting:
I am currently an engineering student at Clark College, my expected graduation is summer of 2017 with an Associates in Science Transfer Degree. It has been a pleasure to learn at Clark, it is a great college. After I have received my associate degree my goal is to attend the University of Washington College of Engineering where I will receive my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. I would like to use my degree, my knowledge and skills to work abroad within local communities.
I am very involved with is the student government. I am the President of the Outdoor & Recreation Club at Clark College. (Outdoor & Rec Club Facebook) I have held this leadership position since fall quarter of 2014. I am responsible for planning and hosting club meeting and community events for students like day hikes, weekend camping trips, surfing trips, snowboarding trips, beach volleyball, and BBQ's. I connect students with volunteer opportunities on and off campus. The club continuities to grow, last quarter we had a total of 63 active members, 411 sign in’s and we volunteered 150 hours within our community.
Through Clark’s Workstudy program I also work part-time for Intramural Sports Program on campus, working with a great team to set up and manage open play campus sports, like basketball, outdoor soccer, and volleyball. When I am not studying, working or attending to club activities, I love to be outdoors. I am an avid cyclist; my biggest accomplishment is riding around the rim of Crater Lake, two consecutive years in a row. I have participated and volunteered in triathlons and other races. I also love to snowboard, hike, surf, read, and explore new places.
I am so thankful for these opportunities I have been blessed with. Being able to return to Japan this summer will give me the chance to grow within a great company and gain more experience working aboard. As well as enjoy Japan rich and beautiful culture.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Samantha
