My name is Tomeka Mills, Founder and President of A.W. Brooks Serenity Home, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to provide a safe and supportive home for girls ages 14–18 who have experienced trauma.

For the past year, we have been raising awareness about the need for this home. We have advocated. We have shared the vision. We have built relationships. And we have made sure people understand that there are girls in our community who need more than temporary solutions.

They need stability.

They need safety.

They need consistency.

They need a place to heal.

And they deserve the opportunity to build a future.

Now, we are moving from awareness to action.

Our GoFundMe goal is $20,000 to help fund the purchase of land for A.W. Brooks Serenity Home.

Why land?

Because before we can raise a wall, we need somewhere to build it.

Purchasing land is the first major step toward bringing A.W. Brooks Serenity Home to life. Once the land is secured, the work continues. We will continue raising funds, developing partnerships, and seeking support from builders, contractors, businesses, organizations, foundations, and individuals to help us move into the construction phase.

This $20,000 is not the entire cost of building Serenity Home. It is a step toward purchasing the land that will give this vision a permanent address.

And what we are building will be more than four walls and a roof.

We are working to create a home where girls can experience stability and safety, continue their education, develop essential life skills, receive guidance and support, and explore college, career, and skilled-trade opportunities.

At the heart of A.W. Brooks Serenity Home is our S.H.E. Model:

EMPOWERED.

Because trauma may be part of a girl’s story, but it should never be allowed to write her ending.

We want our girls to know that what happened yesterday does not get to determine what they become tomorrow.
