In the comprehensive plan of Town of Wawayanda, only a few years ago, our Town wrote that their goals were to:
1) To maintain a land use pattern that accommodates orderly business growth while preserving the Town’s natural beauty, rural character, and historic heritage.
2) To preserve prime farmland and facilitiate access to farmland for new and next-generation
farmers.
While the Town of Wawayanda does not seem to be following their own directive, we are making significant headway in preserving our town's character by combating warehouse overdevelopment.
In a decisive victory on for our community, the Town of Wawayanda Planning Board rejected the proposed mega warehouse RDM#7, demonstrating the power of collective action. Save Wawayanda, Inc. drove an initiative to address 10 proposed mega warehouses, shedding light on their cumulative negative impacts.
By working together and taking targeted legal action, we effectively advocated for the rejection of this major warehouse proposal, showcasing the Town's dedication to informed decision-making that prioritizes the needs of residents, land, and the environment.
With this achievement, we renew our commitment to addressing the remaining proposals and safeguarding our community's future. But this is just one of 10 additional warehouses (and waste transfer station) being proposed to the Town. The traffic impacts alone can not be handled in any reasonable way, as they claim.
We need your continued support to maintain legal counsel , technical experts and produce flyers like the recent one explaining where all the warehouses will be if built. Please consider contributing to help offset the costs of these expenses.
Your assistance is crucial in maintaining our momentum to have responsible growth in the Town of Wawayanda.
