Teaching English in Costa Rica

Greetings All!

On April 15th, 2013 I will be spending 1 week volunteering on the International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) Teaching English program in San Jose, Costa Rica. IVHQ is a NGO that provides safe, affordable volunteering opportunities abroad. The teaching program in Costa Rica provides local children and adults the opportunity to learn to speak English, which gives them a genuine opportunity to have a greater chance at higher education, find work and/or build a career in tourism, business or teaching. Volunteers on the program play an integral part in providing free English lessons to adults and children working in a variety of settings, including programs for the poor, community centers, public schools and public libraries.

It has been a life long dream of mine to volunteer abroad, I believe giving the gift of travel and an opportunity for someone to see the world for how it is and be able to make a small difference, is priceless. I truly believe the children are our future and that means any child from any country on this planet. I am TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified and it has equipped me with the important know-how to teach English to someone learning it as their second language, while overcoming a slight language barrier, so I am very confident in my ability and so grateful for the opportunity to serve others!

80% ($1,000 USD) of donations will go to my accomodations, program fee and airfare, which is very reasonable compared to other agencies, while the 20% ($250) will go to supplies for the children I will be teaching (notebooks, crayons, pencils, calculators, etc.) although these simple things may seem basic to us they make a world of a difference to them, who may not have anything at all.

*I plan to raise funds outside of Go Fund Me as well, with yard sales and various opportunities. I'd love to pay for it all by myself but student loans have a strong hold on my finances, unfortunately, but it won't stop me.

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and to impoverish yourself if you forget the errand." - Woodrow Wilson

...and I believe every word, you won't just be changing my life but those of children who desperately need it.

*I will create a video afterward to allow you all who have donated to get to see the efforts made by the volunteers and the impact it's making on the community in San Jose.
From the bottom of my Heart,
Thank You!
