They have both been learning to skate since the age of 3 and truly enjoy skating. One of the coaches at the rink, Mrs. B.L.Wylie, started a therapeutic skating program called SkateTherapy that specifically caters to children with varying degrees of disabilities. This program has made a tremendous impact on the girls and encouraged them to help these kids and give back to the community.
Both Sandhya and Tanya are unable to volunteer as a coach in the program because they are still too young, but have found a way to help by fundraising through an annual paino recital in our home in Pearland, TX. Both of them have been learning to play the piano for about 3 years under the tutelage of Ms. Virginia Nance.
While the SkateTherapy program is entirely supported by volunteers, there are many costs that need to be covered, such as:
- Ice time
- Adaptive equipment
- Therapeutic equipment
We sincerely request you to support and encourage the girls by donating to this cause. You can also write a check directly to "STARSkaters" and request a company match, if your organization supports the same. All donations made are tax exempted under IRS 501c3 [EIN 26-1657556]. SkateTherapy.org (A program of STARskaters.org - A US Paralympic Sport Club of USA) is an IRS recognized Charity organization.
We look forward to seeing you all at the recital and are very grateful for your generous support.
