Help Bring Ibrahim Home — Support a Father’s Fight for Justice
My name is Derrick T. Griggs, and I’m a devoted father fighting an uphill battle to be reunited with my youngest son, Ibrahim. After the tragic passing of my late wife, Dr. Abeer Griggs, in April 2024, our family has endured unimaginable grief — made worse by a system that has kept me from my son, despite overwhelming evidence of my fitness, stability, and a court-ordered custody evaluation in my favor.
Recently, our story has reached a broader audience through a powerful video shared by community members and supporters. The response has been overwhelming, and I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of support. This renewed attention gives me hope — not only for my family, but for the countless fathers across the country who feel invisible in a system that too often disregards them.
I want to be transparent about how your support will be used:
Legal Expenses: These funds will cover ongoing legal costs in my fight to bring Ibrahim home.
Family Stability: Your contributions help ensure that I can continue to provide a stable, nurturing environment for my older son, Derrick Jr., who courageously chose to live with me after walking away from his mother’s home in February.
Community Impact: Any funds exceeding immediate legal and household needs will go toward launching the Derrick T. Griggs Civic Association, a nonprofit committed to uplifting families and youth across our community.
About the Derrick T. Griggs Civic Association
At the Derrick T. Griggs Civic Association, our mission is to empower communities and support youth by fostering connection, education, health, and opportunity. We are dedicated to creating spaces where young people can thrive academically, athletically, socially, and emotionally. Through community engagement and access to vital resources, we strive to build a future where everyone has the support they need to reach their full potential.
This campaign is about more than one father and one child — it’s about challenging a system that too often overlooks Black fathers, no matter how devoted or capable. If you believe in justice, family, and the power of love, I invite you to stand with me.
Please consider contributing to this cause, sharing our story, and joining the growing movement to bring Ibrahim home — and to ensure no father has to fight this fight alone.
With gratitude,
Derrick T. Griggs
