I am raising funds to refurbish and reopen a historic family space in Zebulon, North Carolina as a community centered wellness and education hub.
Our first goal is to raise $20k. Your donation will fund building updates, restoration work, and the launch of programs focused on wellness, learning, and care for all ages. This includes education and enrichment for infants and children, mentoring and skill building for youth and adults, and wellness education for seniors and families.
Education has always been part of our family’s work. Samuel Harris, my grandfather’s paternal uncle, founded Harris Barber College in 1930; where they continue to expand this legacy through training and opportunity.
In 1948, my grandfather, Elmo Harris and his older brother, Herman Harris opened a barbershop in Zebulon during a time when Black men in rural communities had limited access to care. As World War II veterans, they built more than a business. They created a trusted place for dignity, mentorship, and community.
Our family legacy is grounded in the four T’s of philanthropy:
Time through service.
Talent through skill.
Treasure through financial support.
Ties through community networks.
With the property secured, we are focused on restoring the space and opening it to serve the community once again.
Your donation helps turn a historic space into a living resource for wellness, education, and community connection. Please give what you can and help us open the doors for the next generation.
