Renovating Shuttle Buses into Mobile Showers

The lack of access to fundamental human rights such as food, cleanliness and security can make feelings of trust and hope elusive for our unsheltered neighbors. Fresh Start Mobile Services will help to better serve the network of clients we have

successfully built through our meals and donation program. Being out in the field and having conversations with the people that are experiencing homelessness often you hear them talk about how hard it is to get into shelter to have a shower let alone eat. A clean shower may be the boost of self-confidence someone needs to seek medical treatment, mental health services, ride public transportation, apply for a job or access other social programs. We need services in this city that meet people where they are to offer this, both figuratively and literally. Fresh Start Mobile Services are mobile showers that will be brought directly to the homeless communities in Baltimore City. We have two buses that we are currently working on, that will have two stalls in each bus for someone who is experiencing homelessness can have access to. We aspire to dispatch two new shower vehicles, two times per week, with the goal of 30 showers at each location. That’s a projected total of 240 showers per month. We plan to capitalize on the well-established food distribution system and rapport we have built within the community to launch Fresh Start Mobile Services at these locations. The goal is to get some sense of normalcy back to the community. We want to take the first step in re-humanizing and restoring the dignity of others in our village, and you can help.
