Running for Her Legacy: A Tribute to My Grandmother I am running from the Netherlands to France in honor of my grandmother—a woman of immense strength, resilience, and love. For over 20 years, she battled a debilitating illness that caused severe nerve damage and poor circulation in her legs, leaving her with wounds that never healed. Despite the constant pain, she never complained. She smiled, she loved, and she endured. But in the silence of the night, when she thought no one could hear, I would sometimes listen to her soft cries of pain. It was in those moments that I felt powerless. Now, I choose to honor her by making myself powerful in her fashion. She suffered with weak legs, yet I am blessed with strong and durable ones. So, I will run. The Journey I will run and walk from Amsterdam to France, following the GR12 trail—a 977 km path stretching through the Netherlands, Belgium, and into France. Depending on our progress, we aim to reach either the French border (~500 km) or Paris (~1000 km). The Mission My grandmother passed away just as this project was coming to life. She never got to see it happen, but I will carry her spirit with every step. This run is not just a tribute; it is a mission. I am raising funds to bring joy and dignity to the elderly in her birthplace—Tarrafal, Cape Verde. In the fall of 2025, my team and I will travel there, using every cent of the donations to give the older generation of my nation experiences they never thought possible. Many have lived hard lives and feel forgotten. We want to remind them that they are seen, valued, and loved. There is no set goal for how much we raise—every contribution, no matter the size, will help create moments of joy for those who need it most. We will document the entire journey, showing exactly how your support transforms lives. This is for my grandmother. This is for those who, like her, have endured pain in silence.
