Hello. My name is Laura and I am setting up this go fund me to help support my friend of 30 years who has fled an abusive husband with her two young children.

I am conscious of her safety and have changed her name and her children’s names to protect them.

My friend Sophie and her two young children Isla (6) and Theo (2) have suffered both mental and physical abuse, coercive control and manipulation in the matrimonial home.

This has been happening for years and despite many attempts to leave, her husband has managed to control them, until May 2025 when they finally managed to leave.

Sophie was immediately hit with a court order from her husband to prevent her from enrolling Isla into a new school near her grandmothers house where they have temporarily taken shelter.

This court action has resulted in months and months of legal fees for Sophie totalling £36,000 and is rising month by month. She had had to hire a solicitor as well as private family barristers to represent her.

She is attempting to divorce her husband and he is putting everything in place to make it as difficult as possible and not co-operating resulting in further court orders and costs.

Due to Isla losing her place in school because of the court order, Sophie had to temporarily take leave from work to care for her. This means she had no choice but to take out large loans to both live off and pay the rising costs of the legal fees.

As she is classed as working she cannot get any legal aid.

Please if you have the means to, help support my friend and her two young children get a break in life and be able to move on safely without this huge financial burden.
