Help Free Jerry Lee Clarke — His Health & Civil Rights Are at Risk My name is Katherine Shelton, and I am raising funds for my father, Jerry Lee Clarke, a small business owner from Birmingham, Alabama, who is currently fighting for his life, his freedom, and his constitutional rights. My father has been incarcerated since June 2025 and is being held on a $403,000.00 cash-only bond. There is no option for a surety bond or property bond, meaning our family cannot use a bail bondsman or property to secure his release. This bond amount is extremely excessive given his circumstances and effectively denies him release, raising serious concerns under the Eighth Amendment’s protection against excessive bail. Since being in custody, his health has significantly declined. He has experienced serious medical issues and is not receiving the level of medical care he needs. I am deeply concerned that if he remains incarcerated much longer, his health — and possibly his life — will be in danger. In the months leading up to his arrest, my father was harassed and had his private property trespassed on after displaying a political sign on his own land — an act protected by the First Amendment. Authorities demanded the sign be removed, and what followed ultimately led to charges we firmly believe are unjust. My father is not a violent person. He is a hardworking man who has supported himself, his family, and his community his entire life. He never imagined he would need help like this — but now, we are asking on his behalf.
