First Annual PVD Icons Calendar

The Providence LGBTQIA+ community is a beautifully diverse group of individuals from all cultures, races, classes, backgrounds, genders, sexualities, and intersecting identities. Unfortunately the platforms and stages which our community looks to for entertainment, leadership, education, and guidance have predominantly represented a specific sector of our community and have left many others out of the limelight for far too long. The BIPOC LGBTQIA+ leaders of our community deserve to be uplifted, promoted, and celebrated for everything they bring to the table to make Providence the great city we call home. Their talent, creativity, passion, hard work, and uniqueness should be given all of the opportunities this city has to offer to them in order to amplify their voices and faces to our broader community. For the first time, we are creating a calendar that will be filled with celebrations of some of the Icons in our city that have been previously underrepresented. We will aim to provide a platform each year for our twelve chosen leaders and entertainers to have full creative control over a photo shoot with one of our Providence LGBTQIA+ photographers, and hold a calendar premiere event (either digitally or at a local venue per the health and safety of our community) to celebrate their involvement with this project. It will be our goal to include new and different Icons each year, and to continue to involve and support other LGBTQIA+ businesses and members of our community through this creative endeavor. A portion of proceeds from the calendar and premiere event each year will be donated to an organization of our choice supporting BIPOC LGBTQIA+ people both locally and beyond. Donations to this fund will be used to offset costs for this project, including printing and planning the premiere event later this year. It is also important to us that we are able to provide each of our Icons with as much financial support as possible in order to successfully fulfill their creative visions for their individual photos. The first annual Icons calendar will not have a specific theme, but instead we will encourage our Icons to focus on highlighting the aspects of their personal identity that bring them the most pride.
