We are Caleb Ochimana and Bibhaw Pokharel, Public Health Professionals and we seek to develop a network of health care centers in African towns and rural communities overlooked by traditional healthcare channels. We are in the process of building a social enterprise, which will help build and setup one such center in Ogane-Uge community, a rural community in Nigeria which we hope will serve as a successful prototype for future expansion. Besides providing the essential health care benefits to 7000 people living in Ogane-uge and neighboring Odolu-oko and Ukwaja communities, this effort will also decrease maternal mortality, infant mortality, re-occurrence of polio cases and improve other health outcomes.

Healthcare in Africa requires urgent attention. Less than 50% of populations have access to modern health facilities. Globally, 50% of children under five who die of Pneumonia, Diarrhea, measles, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria are in Africa, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Most people cannot access healthcare especially among people living in rural areas and urban slums. There is a major need for local health facilities which we hope to provide.

Caleb has over 12 years experience in Nigeria Healthcare industry. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Hult International Business School Dubai, Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Management and Leadership degree from Harvard University, USA. Bibhaw have several years experience in leading projects in developing countries. He also holds a Masters of Public Health in Environmental health Sciences degree from Harvard University.

Funding and Progress so Far

We raised $2071 from initial round of crowdfunding. The money we raised was used to raise the foundation and roof of the health care center. Recently Lown Community Health Center (LCHC) Initiative at the Lown Scholars Program has pledged to donate $25000 towards the healthcare center. We are extremely grateful for all the funds we have received. They will all be used in finishing up the structure and payroll. We will still need funding for equipment purchase and initially paying health care professionals. We are on our final stretch. (LCHC) will only release funds upon successful collection of the remaining funds we need to complete the project.

 Pilot Site at Ogane-Uge
The above picture is the pilot site that we started building from prior funding, but yet to complete. We need funds to complete and make it functional then scale it up. We still need to buy equipment and equip the health center will necessary health professionals.

 Implementation Plan Timeline

The project will be executed within 24 months with a budget of $50,000 and achieve sustainability after 23rd months.

Expansion Plan
Phase I: Ogane-Uge Community Health Center would be the pilot site. The success of the pilot will enable us to source for more to expand to more sites within 3 years.

Phase II: In the next 3 years, we hope to scale up the model across rural and urban centers in Nigeria and then expand to 20 centers in the next 5 years in Nigeria impacting 2 million people.

Phase III: Upon successful execution of the model in the Nigeria, we plan to roll out the health centers across rural and urban centers in Sub-Sahara Africa. Our goal is to have 1000 active Primary Health Centers providing Healthcare services to the underserved population by 2040 serving over 100 million people.

Our special thank you to our Project Managers David Adama and Pritika Khatri who has played a pivotal role so far in supporting this project both on site and remotely. David Adama and Pritika Khatri are public health professional who have several years experiences leading projects in Nigeria and Nepal respectively.

We have come a long way since our last update, and we need your help now more than ever to cross the finish line. We really need this money now to enable us to start the pilot and to use the outcome of the center to source for funding for further expansion across Nigeria and Sub-Sahara Africa region.  We really need help your help to raise the necessary funds, so we can release the funds from Lown Community Health Center (LCHC) Initiative. Every dollars counts, and we are grateful for all your support.
