(Muyu JC is a cultural incubator, gallery and shop.)
Our mission is to serve marginalized communities by bridging communication between cultural workers and movement organizers. We do this by nurturing the belief that imagination is a practice in freedom. Our first physical location (now closed prematurely due to Covid) was located in The Village- Ward E.
-Upcoming digital relaunch that adopts a more cooperative & sustainable economic model.
-Programming and educational workshops that center land stewardship and environmental justice.
-Access to a free radical library.
$1000 - Solidarity & Mutual Aid Coalition Jersey City
(People's Unity & Resistance Network providing the People's needs during COVID and building collective power in the Jersey City community.)
- Direct Services has provided groceries, clothing, and other needs to vulnerable and houseless folks
- People's Programming provides programming that addresses the People's needs and education to build community power (Know Your Rights, Healing Circles, DIY Workshops, Community Security Training, etc)
- Information Hub has created zines and pamphlets with information on Tenant's Rights, CCRB, COVID, etc. Works on our graphics and website (SolidarityJC.org)
- Campaigns has worked on CCRB, Tenant's Rights, Anti-Terror Law, and other campaigns that forward the interests of the working class.
- Independent Economy which helped in manifesting our community garden and brainstorms ideas towards a sustainable and people centered economy.
- Upcoming projects are creating Free Store to collect things for houseless folks and community needs. Also, school supplies for distance learning for the Jersey City youth. StoriedJC to collect stories from the community.
$1000 - Anakbayan NJ & other National Democratic Mass Organizations in North Jersey
(Organizations that fight for the rights and welfare of Filipino people while educating, organizing and mobilizing our community while in solidarity with other People's struggles)
- helped pass the NJ DREAM Act
- helped human trafficking survivors
- help ICE detainees to get released
- assist in the worker's center (workers rights)
- host workshops, educational discussions, and teach-ins
- helping rebuild chapter in North Jersey to integrate, learn, and support the Filipino community in Jersey City
Anything above $3,000:
Will go to various causes that contribute to serving the community directly, assisting those in need, causes that advance the interests of the working class, and/or aiding people who need support that are integral to community organizing. I will post updates once/if we reach this mark.
