Our story starts almost 6 years ago. God has given both Jen and I a heart for children and family. After God sent me the love of my life , (Jennifer, in case that is not clear, haha), we decided to try for kids pretty early, but were just feeling like it will happen when it happens. As the years went on we were getting a little impatient but didn't think of a lot of it. About two and a half years ago we decided to be more proactive and went to doctor to see if there was more we could do. The initial tests showed that Jen had a high thyroid level that needed to be normalized so medication was started. After a few months, when we started to go through additional testing, we got the news that Jen had a large ovarian cyst and needed to have a pretty invasive surgery to remove it. In the meantime, I got tested to make sure everything on my side was good. Coming out of surgery we were told that they had to remove part of her ovary to ensure all the cyst tissue was removed and that they found a polyp blocking her right fallopian tube which was also removed. At the 3 month check-up they found that the polyp had grown back and another surgery was needed. When we were finally able to move forward, COVID hit making it impossible to get necessary tests and surgeries in a timely manner, which became very frustrating. Eventually we were able to get in to a fertility specialist and we needed to start some of the testing over because of the COVID delay. The results of that testing led to Jen's latest surgery which she had in November.
With the need for these multiple surgeries and the minimal insurance coverage, we are still paying off those medical bills. This brings us to present day. In our meetings with the doctor they have said Jen's tubes are cleared and my test are good, so they are not sure what the cause of our infertility is. Because of age and the length of time we have been trying, they have told us that IVF is the next step and our best chance at conceiving. The cost of the plan that would give us 3 chances at conceiving costs roughly $30,000. Payment is due in full on first day of starting treatment and we have found that nothing is covered by insurance. Unfortunately, for in vitro treatments, they don't have payment plans or other options that would allow us to pay for this on our own.
I had intended to have someone else put together a go-fund-me page for us, but after some good talks with family, friends, and conviction of the Holy Spirit, I realize I don't get to hide like that. I am suppose to be vulnerable and open in this time, which has been a journey of valleys and mountains. Something that is not easy for me is asking or receiving help from others because of my personality and how God made me. I tend to take on the world, no matter the situation, by myself and not trust others around me or God to work through them. So here I go, and we are trusting God! More than anything, we value your prayers as we continue on this journey. Love you all!
