The Basics...
I am a nursing student at Liberty University and an opportunity to travel to Haiti to assist in caring for mommies has come up. The clinic is managed by volunteers, so our team would be volunteering for a week in March (10th-20th) to provide nursing care. Some of the care we will be giving includes STD screenings, labor and delivery assistance, pregnancy assessments, newborn assessments and patient teaching. Also, we will get to just love on some mommies and their sweet, new babies!
The $$$...
First of all, I have no money... (Monkey Emoji Covering His Eyes) This means two things: I need to start saving more money from my part time job and I need help! The cost of the trip is $2,600, which includes the plane ticket, housing, some food, and transportation. There are three due dates where different amounts of money are due:
18 January 2016: $500 Due
25 January 2016: $900 Due
15 February 2016: $1,300 Due
Every time I look at these deadlines my heart stops for a second because they are basically INSANE... but my heart is comforted instantaneously because I know that my God has provided everything I have ever needed (and many times provided things I have wanted) in the past and this situation is no exception to that.
The Question...
Could you help me? I am in some serious need of help from you guys... It is hard for me to ask for money from people because I guess we all could use the extra money and I wish I could give something in return for any money that you may give. But a sweet friend of mine reminded me that even though I may not directly be able to give you anything for your money, there are mommies and babies that are going to be healthier because of the money that you give. So you really are getting something for your money! And the truth is, is that we have been given SO MUCH... We have things piled in storage rooms, closets that cannot fit one more piece of clothing, and drawers that cannot be shut because we have so much. And this is sad because NONE of those things actually matter. What matters most is love...
I hope that your help comes not from guilt or any other weird reason, but just because you want to join me in loving people. They could never get the access to care that is best for them, but we can help by giving just a few mommies that opportunity. And although we cannot help all of the mommies and the babies in the world, we can help a few. And to those few, that help means the world.
My Heart...
You guys know I love Jesus and He is THE reason I want to go love on some mommies and babies. Jesus has loved me so much and I cannot help but want to love every single person that is in front of me. I do not have to go to Haiti to love people, but the reason I want to specifically go on this trip is because I do not just get to love them in the usual ways, I would get to love them by giving them the medical attention they need. It would be such a gift to love families in Haiti in a way that I am learning to love- nursing. Also, I may even be interested in being a nurse in a foreign country, so this would be the opportunity to discover if that really is what God would want to do together!
I am convinced that God has put THE BEST human beings in my life and I have no doubt that I will be in Haiti on March 10th, loving on some mommies and babies. I love you guys...
