Help Support My Volunteer Service with Mercy Ships!

Donation protected
My name is Teransc, and I’m excited to share that after applying in 2020 and going through a rigorous application process (Special thanks to Sofiane Cherifi and Paul Max for taking the time to write references for me), I have finally been given the opportunity to volunteer with Mercy Ships this December! This has been a long journey in the making, and I’m reaching out for support to help make it happen. I will be putting my skills to work in the dining room, serving 3 meals a day to nearly 600 volunteers aboard the largest civilian hospital ship in the world—the Global Mercy!
  • What Am I Raising Funds For?
I’m raising funds to cover travel expenses, required insurance and any costs I will incur while away from home for this extended period of time. This opportunity is deeply meaningful to me, and I’m reaching out to friends, family & coworkers to help make this life-changing experience a reality. My goal is $2500.
  • Why Mercy Ships?
My connection to Mercy Ships began during my first trip to Sierra Leone in 2011, when I took a very unusual journey- delivering a housecat to complete strangers volunteering with the Peace Corps. These strangers, who quickly became lifelong friends, had left their pet behind in the U.S., and I was asked to help reunite them. That trip didn’t just forge new friendships—but I was also introduced to some of the incredible Mercy Ships volunteers. It all began with a cat named Snooka, a bonfire on the beach and a Redbull.

In 2013, I returned to Sierra Leone to visit those same friends, this time bringing along Pepe. We spent the next few weeks camping on beaches up and down the coast of Sierra Leone. It was during that trip that we also got engaged, making it an unforgettable adventure.

Now, this December (2024), I’ll be making my third trip back to Sierra Leone—this time as a volunteer with Mercy Ships.
  • What Is Mercy Ships?
Mercy Ships is an international nonprofit organization that operates the largest civilian hospital ships in the world, bringing free, life-saving medical care to some of the world’s most underserved communities. The organization provides vital surgeries, medical treatments, and healthcare training to those who otherwise have little or no access to medical care. Working alongside local governments, Mercy Ships helps strengthen healthcare systems and leave a lasting impact in the regions they serve.

The ships are fully staffed by volunteers—medical professionals, engineers, cooks, teachers, and more—who donate their time and expertise to make a difference. Since its founding, Mercy Ships has performed over 100,000 surgeries, treated hundreds of thousands of patients, and trained thousands of local healthcare workers. Their mission is centered around hope, healing, and transforming lives.
