Please help support my Medical Mission Trek in Nepal!
To my friends and family,
I have set up this Go Fund Me account because I need your help to provide medical support for the Nepali community during my travels to Nepal beginning in September of 2017. I will be using my skills as a Registered Nurse by volunteering and providing medical care in remote villages for two weeks.
My wanderlust has inspired me to explore India and Nepal beginning this summer. I have spent a great deal of time evaluating what I hope to accomplish during my travels. I realize I seek to serve a purpose greater than myself and help those in need. In my search for this type of opportunity, I discovered medical treks with TREKT Himalaya.
What is a "medical trek"?
A medical trek is a unique volunteer experience where myself and a 11 other medical professionals from around the world will hike to remote villages in Nepal and set-up medical camps. This will be a cultural immersion experience where we utilize our medical skills, work side-by-side with Nepali medical professionals, and provide care to over 300 Nepali people per day. What is TREKT Himalaya?
TREKT Himalaya, based out of Kathmandu, Nepal, is a company dedicated to training and hiring guides from dalit castes in Nepal. This allows guides to break free of traditional caste roles, develop professionally, earn a higher income, and have an improved quality of life.
Since 2012, a major focus of TREKT Himalaya is to provide medical care for the Nepali community through medical treks. TREKT has been successful with these missions and has provided care to over 200,000 individuals through 4 to 8 missions per year.
Who will benefit?
Nepali individuals who have the least amount of access to basic health services and care. Medical issues that have been addressed in past medical treks include, but are not limited to:
Polio
Typhoid
Skin Disease
Respiratory Illness
Hygiene Issues
Women's Health Care
Post-natal Care

Why am I so passionate about this experience?
In Nepal, people may go several years suffering illnesses that can be cared for with basic medical skills. Along with the challenge of getting hospitals and large clinics into cities of Nepal, individuals living in rural areas have little to no access to medical care. Our solution: we bring medical care to them!
Why am I asking you to donate?
As I am very passionate about participating in this volunteer experience and providing medical care to those in desperate need, it does come with a relatively high price of $1775.00 for the two week trek. This cost goes to TREKT and enables the organization to plan logistics, purchase supplies, and hire guides for each mission.
And now, I graciously ask for your help to be able to participate in this volunteer experience and help the Nepali community! Any contributions by August 2017 will truly help me meet this goal!
Where specifically will your donation go?
1. A full mobile pharmacy
2. Medical supplies
3. Hired Nepali physician
4. Donations to each village (school supplies and community funding)
5. Trek support for volunteers and guides (food and supplies)
*Your donation will solely be used for my medical mission trek. Airfare expenses and additional travel costs are not included.
To share the work my team and I accomplish while on this mission, I will create a blog that includes pictures and descriptions of this mission. I truly appreciate any contribution and your support for this opportunity to help the Nepali community!
