Masjid Sunnah GR Mechanical Renovations

Masjid Sunnah Grand Rapids Michigan would like to thank everyone who gave to our very first campaign.  We were able to complete the Phase 1 renovations to the exterior raising over $55,000 for a new roof and to major masonry repairs, see the details

We are now raising funds to begin our Masjid (Mosque) renovation project, Phase 2.  This phase will continue the remodeling and repairs to the Musalla, mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry), and the 1st-floor interior.

The goal for phase of our project is estimated at approximately $58,000. Please donate for the Sake of Allah to help us convert this old Church into a Masjid.

About Us:

We are a small community of Muslims residing here in Grand Rapids who have purchased this building with the intention of establishing a Mosque here.

We are a non-political and non-violent group.

We abhor the acts of terrorism that have been taking place in recent years under the banner of Islam and we openly condemn these acts as well as those who involve themselves in these crimes.

We have 5 daily prayers which occur at dawn, mid-day, afternoon, dusk, and night. The mosque will periodically be used for seminars on Islamic topics and family gatherings.

The bookstore section of the building will operate on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Our research library will be open from 12 pm to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

We will also be organizing activities for children and arranging dinners for the neighborhood, with the primary purpose of introducing ourselves as the Muslims next door.

Additional info:

We operate the well-established Sunnah Publishing company its history spans more than ten years. In this time, we have published seventeen print publications covering various Islamic topics, maintained four websites rich in original content and organized various seminars in and out of Grand Rapids for Muslims and non-Muslims to educate them about the true message of Islam.

Sunnah Publishing has been financially independent, relying on book sales and donations from members to pay bills. Upon completion of the Masjid as-Sunnah project, we plan to remain the same, all proceeds from Sunnah Publishing will be used for the maintenance of the Masjid. Revenue will also come from the rent collected from the occupants of the 4 apartments located on the second floor.

We have had many requests from local prisons to provide free literature and information about Islam. To date, this has been a successful program and we have fulfilled these requests. The plan now is to expand into a full inmate assistance program which would also be based out of the mosque.

Over the last 13 years, we have held 2 classes on weekends on Islamic creed and ritual worship to help educate Muslims in the Grand Rapids area about the tenets of their religion.

Short - intermediate:

To educate Muslims and non-Muslims about the primary tenets and overall message of the religion of Islam. While accomplishing this, we will clarify to all that the terroristic activities witnessed in recent years from various organizations (Muslim Brotherhood, Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS etc.) have nothing to do with the pure religion and teachings of Islam.

Long term:

To see a thriving Muslim community connected to this mosque, which will exemplify to our non-Muslim neighbors what true Islam is, contrary to what they may see in the news media or hear about from subsidiary sources.
