Maroon & Rastafari in Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
Helping rebuild homes for Rastafari and Maroon families in St. James & St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, after Hurricane Melissa’s devastation.

My name is Marcia Cunningham, affectionately known as Sister Marcia, and I am the Founder of Black Mama Earth Ltd (UK) and Rastafari Maroon JA Ltd (Jamaica).

I’m raising funds to help rebuild homes and restore hope for families in St James, Jamaica, after the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa. Places like German Town, Tangle River and Flagstaff

Year 2 ½ — Another crate is on its way!

I am proud to be African by way of Jamaican roots and lived in Montego Bay for over 19 years. I’m now based in London, England, still dedicated to supporting grassroots initiatives across Jamaica.

Over three years ago, I founded Black Mama Earth Ltd, a social enterprise in London that creates projects benefiting our youth, elders, and under-resourced African and African-Caribbean families — especially within the Rastafari and Maroon communities in the UK and Jamaica.
We actively work in schools, community and rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and prisons, offering palliative care and empowerment programmed.

Just over a year after Hurricane Beryl, Jamaica has been hit again — and many families who were still recovering have now lost everything once more. Homes have collapsed, roofs have been torn off, and entire communities are struggling to recover.

This fundraiser will support both the Rastafari and Maroon communities, who have been deeply affected.

Last year, with the help of amazing supporters, we successfully shipped relief supplies to Jamaica. Once again, people have begun dropping off clothing, shoes, and essential items at my home, ready to be packed into a large crate bound for Jamaica.

How Your Donations Will Help

Rebuilding materials: zinc sheets, timber, cement, nails, and tools

Logistics: shipping crate, customs clearance, wharf fees, and local delivery

Direct community aid: getting materials and support quickly to those most in need

Our goal is to raise £50,000 to rebuild safe homes, restore livelihoods, and bring hope back to those most affected.

Transparency & Updates

I’ll post regular photos and videos as we pack, ship, and distribute aid, so you can see exactly how your contributions are helping on the ground.

Please donate and share this page widely. Together, we can rebuild the spirit of Jamaica — one roof, one home, one heart at a time.

❤️ “One love, one heart — let’s rebuild together.”
