WHO: Lisa Hemming Forni, my wonderful Aunt.
WHAT: The Chicago Marathon
WHERE: Chicago!
WHEN: October 13th, 2019
WHY: Why not!
Welcome - My name is Rod McCleary (aka Roderick, Roddy, R2, Jr etc) and thank you for stopping by our page. I say our page because I am partnering with My dear Aunt Lisa (Lisa Hemming Forni) who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I am running the 2019 Chicago Marathon on October 13th in my Aunt Lisa's honor as her courage has served as the inspiration for my participation. I am not a runner so this is going to be a very challenging task for myself; however, I know that when my training (or the race itself) gets tough I can pull strength from Aunt Lisa to power through it because she’s always rooting me on.
For those of you that know my Aunt Lisa, she has had many challenges in her life and has battled through them with an unbelievable spirit. Her determination has allowed her to take this challenge head-on with the winner's mentality, and I know just like her other challenges, she'll come out on top. She recently started her 5-month chemo treatment in the middle of May and she will be done in October! CAN I GET A HECK YEAH?!
Also, I will be raising funds for the World Vision Team*, but once that goal has been reached, the remainder will be directed to Lisa. She’s always put others first and it’s been years since she did something for herself. My hope is she will use whatever is raised so that she can treat herself come October to whatever her heart desires :-) Skydiving, driving a race car, a road trip across the country, maybe even a cruise. Whatever she chooses – the cancer will have lost.
I am asking everyone to make a donation of whatever you are comfortable with. Thank you for your support!
--If Lisa is up for it, she will be sharing journal entries of her journey in hopes that she can provide support to others who are affected by this horrible disease. Please check in with us often and see our progress.--
*Rod is representing the charity World Vision and will be donating $500 to them in order to secure running bib to participate in 2019 Chicago Marathon
