Lifelong Caregiver Needs Your Support!
This is my story….
Growing up as the only boy in my family without a role model was not easy. My biological father was an alcoholic who left my mother while she was pregnant with my younger sister. My stepfather had problems of his own and did not know how to be a father. Two of my uncles, who should have been trusted adults, sexually abused me when I was young. My mother was able to believe me because he sexually abused her when she was a child.
I have struggled all my life to find my place. I was homeless for a while, and I was even a carny. At the age of 32, my mother died in my arms of a massive heart attack. She was only 53 years old and had been on dialysis for 1.5 years. Her body was just worn out. I lost the one person who understood me the best.
Despite all the difficulties in my life, I have always been there for others. I have been a caregiver for over 20 years. When my mother died, I took over her role in the house: cleaning, cooking, shopping, and taking care of my nephew.
When the mother of my mother's life partner moved into a nursing home, I took care of her house and yard. I took her grocery shopping every week and drove her to all her appointments.
When she died, it was not long before her son (my late mother's partner) became ill. I have been taking care of him and his home for 23 years. His health is so bad that I cannot take any other jobs to make ends meet.
I have paid a high price for being a caregiver all these years. I know my life could have been different, but I chose to help others instead.
With all my health issues (PTSD, Bipolar, ADHD) and financial burdens, I find myself in a quandary. That is why I created a GoFundMe page for medical expenses, outstanding debts and needs to repair the dilapidated house that we live in.
Every dollar donated will help us keep a roof over our heads. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
