Who is Leonardo ?
Leonardo is a 2-year-old sweet little boy that loves music, dancing, and cars. Having his speaker playing his favorite music and playing his drums is what really makes him happy.
On Christmas Day, 2024, at Lurie Children’s Hospital, Leo was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a type of cancerous tumor that affects kids under five.
Words cannot describe the feeling of such devastating results. We can still hear the words no parents ever want to hear, “Your son has a tumor and it’s cancerous”.
The doctors discovered the main tumor in his abdomen, which was compressing one of his kidneys. Consequently, a nephrostomy tube was inserted to alleviate the blockage and maintain Leonardo’s blood pressure.
The tumor is also close to other important organs and the spine, and the biopsies confirmed that it has spread to his bone marrow.
His treatment is going to be aggressive and long. The doctors are hoping that the chemotherapies will help reduce the size of his tumor and remove most of it.
However, more chemotherapy sessions and radiation will still need to continue as part of his treatment. His treatment is just starting and we have already witnessed the side effects, which have been scary and painful for the entire family.
We know that it is only the beginning of more stays at the hospital, visits to the emergency room, and although his hair is currently on vacation, as we tell him, we are hopeful that this is also the beginning of his recovery.
Leonardo is showing incredible courage and strength in the face of this diagnosis. He’s an inspiration to all of us, and we’re so proud of him. He is teaching us to have faith and to put our trust in God. We’re going to keep fighting for him, and we know that he’ll beat this cancer.
We’re so grateful for every moment we spend with our dear Leo. We’d be so thankful if you could keep sending us your love, support, and prayers for a speedy recovery.
We know that God and the doctors are working their magic, and we’re so grateful for the support of our family, friends, and now, you, who’ve all stepped up to help Leo on this journey.
We really appreciate you taking the time to read this, and we’re so touched by all the love and care that’s been sent Leo’s way. God bless you, The Perez Family ◦.
