La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Food Pantry

Hola from La Cruz! (January 13, 2021) As you may notice, we have temporarily disabled the “Donate” button. As we continue into the high season and the economy slowly picks up, more and more folks are able to find work.   We currently have sufficient funds to make sure none of our neighbors go hungry in the near term.  As the season progresses, we will be constantly evaluating the need, but for now, we are hopeful that more and more folks will find work and the need for the Food Pantry will diminish substantially or even entirely. From all of us at the Food Pantry and all of our neighbors in La Cruz, we Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.  Your generosity and support has been absolutely amazing and inspiring - we can’t even begin to express how much it has meant to the families we helped get through this most difficult time. Please follow us on Facebook where we will continue to post periodic updates:     https://www.facebook.com/LaCruzFoodPantry We wish everyone a safe and healthy New Year, and we look forward to the day when we can all be together again in this little bit of paradise called La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. #JuntosSomosFuertes ***************************** Many of our neighbors in the little town of LA CRUZ DE HUANACAXTLE, Nayarit, Mexico depend on your tourist dollars for their livelihood.  This year, the coronavirus epidemic, has cancelled the high season two months early.  Restaurants, businesses and beaches closed for strict and necessary social distancing, but hundreds of folks are suddenly out of work. Already, our local families are undergoing a lot of stress and uncertainty.

Many folks and groups around town are working together to set up a FOOD PANTRY for any townsperson in need.  One neighbor has counted at least 50 families that need help NOW.  There will undoubtedly be more.  We will use your contribution to buy provisions locally and distribute rice, beans, corn meal, garden seeds, and more.  Your gift goes a long way!

Please consider giving $50US a month (or more!) for six months.  Your $300 donation will help over 300 people -- especially the seniors and the wonderful children of our town.

If you ask us why we love Mexico, our answer comes immediately -- the PEOPLE!  Together, we can make sure that our neighbors don't go hungry during this time.  Thank you for your support -- and when this is over, please come and visit this magical place we call home.

(This "Go Fund Me" campaign is one of several ways to contribute to the La Cruz Food Pantry.  Check back - this site will be updated with more information regularly.) Updates! April 13th. Thank you all for your incredible outpouring of generosity. Since this appeal was first launched, we formed a grassroots, community-wide coalition to feed the hungry in the town we love - friends and neighbors who have lost their livelihoods due to the current pandemic. We’ve already delivered food to almost 50 families. We have a host of volunteers gearing up for the long haul. All that happened in week one - but this is a marathon, not a sprint! For a lot more information on what we are doing, look for “La Cruz Food Pantry” on Facebook - and you can communicate with us at [email redacted]. We can’t do this without the help of every one of you - it truly takes a village to keep a village alive. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts - together we are strong. Juntos somos Fuertes!
