As some of you know, in August 2016, I began law school. In October 2016, I married my husband. In March 2017, I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy. In March 2018, we started a food truck business. In November 2018, I finally decided that life is too short to be living in hell.
Without going into too much detail.... for the entirety of my marriage, I have been suffering from physical and emotional abuse from the hands of my now ex-husband. Over time, the abuse got significantly worse until I ended up finally having him arrested after approximately twenty incidents in two years.
I created this Gofundme, because people ask me how to help me and I am typically to ashamed/embarrassed to ask for help. Currently, I am trying to graduate law school in May (yes this year) and handle my current living situation. My entire law school career I've been holding it together while raising a new born and suffering through the darkest period of my life. Any financial gifts would help me with focusing on healing, graduating, and taking care of my son.
In January 2017, I filed for a temporary restraining order against my husband. After six long weeks and a lot of judicial efficiency on behalf of the Los Angeles court system, I won full sole legal/physical custody of my son. During the restraining order process, I racked up $9,370.00 in legal fees (approx. 40 hours of legal work and not including the $3,500.00 retainer I previously paid). I am asking for $15,000.00 to pay off my current legal fees, with the other $5,000.00 to be used for next installment of fees that I predict will follow (I am positive my husband is not done fighting me in court).
My husband refused to concede to the restraining order after being asked to multiple times. The evidence on record proved with reasonable certainty that he was the abuser in my marriage. Completely ignoring the truth and my evidence, my ex decided to fight against the restraining order at the risk of losing his son. In the process, he forced me to both testify for two hours AND he testified under oath that he never put his hands on me. This hearing has been one of the most mentally and emotionally exhausting situations in my life.
The process of divorce is extremely painful and financially burdensome. Since November, I have had to move out of the county and restart my entire life, including the life of my (almost) 2 year old son. I appreciate your sensitivity and understanding as I progress and heal through this situation. Please be kind with your words :) and thank you for any positive energy or gift that you feel moved to provide me. I never imagined that I would be in this situation, but I am humbled and anticipating the outcome that God will provide for me in this situation. Domestic violence can happen to any of us; check on your "strong" friend.
