Hi Everyone!
My name is Kalei Noriega and I am 26 years old. I am a native of Arizona with a love for animals, exploration, and pushing outside of my comfort zone! I started the beginning of my adult life serving 6 years in the Navy and have since been exploring my passions in search of how I can make these skills become benefits for others, the community, and worldwide.
Since I was a child, I have strived to live a life of service in helping animals, whether it was finding a lost stray or walking the neighborhood dogs. After my years in the Navy I started my own pet sitting business, but still contemplated how I could make a greater impact to the community of animals. My heart never stopped yearning to join a cause involving animal conservation. It is undoubtedly my life's passion and purpose at work.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "WE ALL WANT TO DO THAT!!" and of course, who wouldn't want to be a part of saving the African Lion & the Black Rhino from complete and utter extinction?! Unfortunately, I realize that it is not in everyone’s capacity to do so as we all have our responsibilities. Thankfully, after my time in the service I am now blessed with the freedom of time, however not so much money!
With this time, I am ready to embark on a four-week journey starting March 18th to Zimbabwe in hopes of not only leaving a lasting impact on the community but eager to bring back knowledge through experiences of how WE can all be more kind to the animals and the culture that surrounds us here in America. I have an opportunity to fulfill a dream of volunteering with The International Volunteer HQ. This is going to be life-changing! I will be protecting endangered species on a private game reserve in Victoria Falls, home of the BIG 5 (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo)! How cool is that?! By taking part in this project I will be improving the quality of the surrounding areas in Victoria Falls as well as ensuring these endangered species live a normal life in the wild. This means we will be removing alien vegetation, assisting in waterhole creation, grounds upkeep and tracking wildlife in their natural environment. The best part is, not only will I be working with animals but I will also have the opportunity to interact with local communities focusing on education, nutrition and vegetable gardening!!
With this is in mind I am taking a leap of faith and asking for support from my community to make a difference where it is needed!! No matter the amount, all donations are greatly appreciated and need to be in by March 15th. These donations will be going towards my room & board ($1700 for four weeks, includes food 3x daily) and travel considerations ($1700; $1600 flight and $50 ground transportation each way).
