Justice and Equality Fund

Recent events across the country have brought the injustice and deep-rooted racism that has long plagued the black community to the forefront of the national discussion. We all must do our part to take action and make our voices heard.

The Justice + Equality Fund aims to do just that, addressing both the urgent needs as well as broader, systemic issues. At launch, donations will support organizations focused on pretrial system reform, racial justice, and law enforcement reform. Initial benefiting nonprofits will include The Bail Project, the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Center for Policing Equity. As we grant to new organizations, we will include them below. Here’s a little more information about the important work these organizations are dedicated to:

 - The Bail Project is working to change the structural, economic and racial inequities of America's pretrial system. It provides free bail assistance to low-income individuals who are legally presumed innocent and deemed eligible for release, contingent on paying bail, by a judge before their trial.

 - The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund is a legal organization fighting for racial justice through a combination of litigation, advocacy, and public education. It also defends civil rights gains and protections and works to improve the diversity of judicial and executive appointments.

 - Center for Policing Equity uses a data-driven, evidence-based approach to eliminate bias and reduce the causes of racial disparities in law enforcement. Over the past ten years, they've partnered with over 25 police departments to help them bridge the divide with the communities they serve.

- RAHEEM  is the first independent online service for reporting police abuse. The organization helps people get justice, whether by filing a complaint against the officer, connecting them to a free lawyer or local advocacy group, or publicizing the story in local media.

- Equal Justice Initiative has fought to end mass incarceration and excessive punishment, and has advocated for racial and social equality for over thirty years. EJI believes that we need an era of truth and justice that starts with confronting our history of racial injustice. Over the next year, EJI will expand its public education efforts around slavery, lynching, segregation and mass incarceration.

- Advancement Project is a civil rights organization with diverse projects, including its effort to protect the right to vote. By focusing on messaging, educating people of color on the issues surrounding and communicating the importance of voting, they can empower historically disenfranchised communities prior to election season.

These organizations were chosen for the leadership they’ve demonstrated and the meaningful impact they have had on the causes that the Justice + Equality Fund will initially benefit. This is just the first step. We’ll keep donors updated as we expand the reach of the Fund by adding additional organizations and benefiting causes.

Racial inequality and injustice have no place in our society. It’s time to come together, keep this important conversation going, and help enact real change.
