Journey Unique

On May 26, 2016 Journey Unique Houston was born and diagnosed with a rare heart disease called Pulmonary Atresia. Before Journey’s arrival, her parents Lakesha Nelson and Don Houston were informed that Journey’s condition was life threatening. The doctors were not sure if Journey would survive the delivery. But despite those devastating news, Lakesha and Don remained hopeful and optimistic; they decided to not terminate the pregnancy, but to give Journey a chance at a beautiful life.

To date, Journey has had two major surgeries on her heart and two more on her throat which also included her needing a trach. More surgeries are scheduled in the future. The doctors have informed Journey's parents that eventually Journey will need a heart transplant.  Journey had remained in the  hospital for the first nine months of her life. While her parents dealing with all of this her medical bills are continuing to pile up.

Don Houston (my cousin) is currently working two jobs to help with the financial responsibilities but it’s not enough due to Lakesha not being able to return to work due to the significant care that Journey’s condition requires at this time.
