Support Ridván Kindness Organization (RIKO): Uplifting Indigenous Communities in Northern Tanzania
We are the Ridván Kindness Organization (RIKO) — a self-initiated, women-led NGO based in Esilalei Village, Northern Tanzania. What began as three Maasai women coming together to pray and discuss local challenges has blossomed into a registered organization (Reg. No. ooNGO/7690), working tirelessly to create a better future for their community.
In Esilalei Village, women, youth, and children face numerous hardships:
1. Leaking roofs in traditional bomas (homes)
2. Limited access to nutritious food and clean drinking water
3. Inadequate healthcare services
4. Lack of school uniforms and educational supplies, keeping children out of school
5. High rates of youth unemployment and idleness, increasing vulnerability
6. Environmental degradation, including deforestation and poor waste management
7. Harmful traditional practices, including:
Child marriage, forcing girls to leave school early
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), causing long-term health issues
Gender-based violence, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse
Denial of property rights and economic opportunities
Social exclusion from leadership and decision-making spaces
These issues are deeply interconnected, and they limit not only individual growth but also the collective development of our community.
RIKO is here to change that: We implement locally-driven, practical solutions that focus on:
- Education: Providing school uniforms, learning materials, and support to keep girls and boys in school
- Health & Water: Enhancing access to clean water, menstrual hygiene, and basic health services
- Women’s Empowerment: Supporting women's groups, entrepreneurship, and income-generating activities
- Youth Empowerment: Engaging youth through mentorship, vocational training, and leadership development
- Environmental Conservation: Promoting tree planting, waste management, and climate awareness initiatives
- Gender Equality & Advocacy: Raising awareness, strengthening community capacity, and working to eliminate all forms of violence and harmful practices against women and girls
We are now launching a General Fundraising Campaign to strengthen all our initiatives.
